Evan Rosa: Commentary on Album Art

When you think about the integration of the vast cosmos with the intricate, and detailed seemingly invisible sort of small yet so significant parts of our bodies that make them so glorious—There’s a little inner cosmos within that is really inspiring
— Evan Rosa

Evan Rosa is the Assistant Director for Public Engagement at the Yale Center for Faith and Culture. One of his roles is to produce, edit, and host their podcast, For the Life of the World. He often designs the digital art that accompanies each episode on the podcast. Intrigued by his art style, and upon the recommendation of a mutual friend, I reached out to Evan, and he graciously worked with me to create the album cover for my song “To Become Human.” We brainstormed together what it would look like, but he truly took creative liberty and lead. He really brought my creative vision to life, incorporating elements from the lyrics into the design, from stars to cells. If you look closely enough, the composite image contains DNA, red blood cells and stars.

I invited Evan to share the story behind the album art he made for me at my song launch party last Summer. The full talk was recorded and can be accessed below.

“A few particular lines [in the song] pushed me in this particular [artistic] direction. The idea that we are made of stardust, and that stardust can somehow collect to form the many cells in our bodies…When you think about the integration of the vast cosmos with the intricate, and detailed seemingly invisible sort of small yet so significant parts of our bodies that make them so glorious—There’s a little inner cosmos within that is really inspiring, and so I just personally connected with that. And that’s what made this particular image come to mind.” - Evan Rosa
