Sermon & Song Night: For Joy

Every Friday in July, the Mount Carmell Worship Collective will host free live online Sermon and Song worship events where we will share one of the songs we are crowdfunding for. We will also have a guest pastor or ministry leader give a 10 minute sermon on the Scripture passage that inspired the song, as well as a scripture reading and prayer.

Song: “For Joy” written by Marie-Claire Mitchell and Ciara-Reyes-Ton

Lyrics: “I will lift my hands and praise the one who gave it all for me…who laid it down, for joy.”

Scripture & Reading by: Hebrews 12:2;

Prayer by: Grant Argent and Mike Dorroh

Sermon by: Jay, Overseas Missionary

Speaker Bio: Jay and his family live and serve in North Africa. Their heart is to love and glorify Jesus by sharing His good news and planting His church in places that have historically been resistant and hostile to the Gospel.

About the Song: This song was inspired by Hebrews 12:2: "looking unto Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising shame, and hath sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." Joy isn’t usually contextualized within suffering, but Christ shows us that it can be.
